Save Historic Newmarket

The training of racehorses has taken place on Newmarket Heath for almost 400 years and there are now around 2,500 horses in training in the town

Save Historic Newmarket was formed in 2008 in order to protect and preserve the unique identity of the headquarters of British horseracing.

Mooted as a potential World Heritage Site, the town attracts visitors from all around the world because of its special place in the history, not only of horseracing, but also of Great Britain.

Ever since King Charles II established his racing stable at the historic Palace House, Newmarket has been a mecca for owners, breeders, trainers and for people who love horses.

Whether you live in Newmarket or simply enjoy visiting the town for the racing or sales, please join us in our quest to maintain its status as the jewel in the crown of horseracing.

The town’s future as a major training centre is in serious jeopardy: traffic gridlocks and proposed major housing and commercial developments are increasingly at odds with its rural heritage.

Before it’s too late, add your name to the campaign that has already made a difference in just twelve months.
